A vernal pool is an important part of the ecosystem, supplying breeding and feeding grounds for creatures that could not survive in open water. Join us one hour after sunset during March, April and May to monitor the swamp as part of a state-wide preservation effort. We'll listen to a recording of frog calls before venturing out to the swamp. Flashlights in hand, we'll hike to the edge of the swamp. Then, lightless, we'll listen quietly for mating calls. Some months the sound is intense; other months we hear only distant calls. Then the salamander hunt begins! What an exciting adventure, searching the dark swamp, flashlights in hand, for any sign of movement! Bring the whole family on this late-night adventure. Wear mud boots and bring a strong flashlight for each person attending.

Learn the basics of fishing! This program teaches children, ages 4-17, about fish identification, knot tying, rigging your fishing pole, habitats, and casting. Only participant (ages 4-17) needs to register, but parents/adults may sit in the program.
